Fabulous French Silver Asparagus or Sandwiches Grip

The silverplate grip has a two-part hinged grip form, with foliate decoration. This grip can be used for asparagus, pastry or even sandwiches. This model has been reissued by Puiforcat under number 6155. No monogram.

The nicest asparagus grips are undeniably those made by the Maison Debain. While they produced grips in many different styles, it is those from the beginning of the 20th century, designed by artists like Maurice Giot, Valery Bizouard, Aldolphe Truffier and Francois Alphonse Piquemal, in the Art Nouveau style that are the best off all, and which proved to be greatest success.

Registered on the 16th of may 1884, Alphonse Debain won Gold Medal at the Universal Exhibition of 1889 in Paris with this ingenious asparagus grip.

This innovative system was picked up by other silversmiths as the prestigious Maison Christofle and Puiforcat.

He was active in march 19, 1884 and was one of the first silversmith to use Art Nouveau designs in French silverware.

Patterns of Alphonse Debain were acquired by the prestigious silversmith Emile Puiforcat (Hermes) that perpetuates today the heritage of excellence of this silversmith.

Weight: 114 grams.

The condition is very good. Micro-scratches from normal use. The grip system works perfectly. A master silversmith made a complete cleaning and polishing. Multiple use for this serving grip, exceptional in both design and execution, this fabulous piece will grace your table and delight your guests.
