L.Ravaud & Muller freres
peacock chandelier
A beautiful 1930 French art deco chandelier in nickel plated bronze or solid brass. The superb fixture holds a large hexagonal bowl and 3 side-shades in molded-pressed glass. Frosted by acid with hand-polished glossy highlights. This model Muller glasses is refered to as les paons (the peacocks). A similar smaller chandelier is represented in the old product catalog of Louis Ravaud a blacksmith from the city of Lyon France who produced forged iron art deco lamps during the interbellum. In his shop he also sold bronze lighting fixtures made by other manufacturers alongside his own wrought iron products. The Ravaud catalog is of coarse is no part of this sale.
The finely detailed mounting matches the decoration of the glasses. All shades are signed Muller freres Luneville. The chandelier has a height of 85,5 cm (33-21/32 inches) and is about 78 cm wide (30-11/16"). A smaller version holding Degué shades is represented in the Ravaud catalog (which is no part of this sale).
The chandelier is in excellent condition. I have replated and patinated the mounting. For the US it comes wired with one American standard socket and three candelabra base ones. For Europe I will place standard E27 and E14 sockets.
I must ship this chandelier demounted since the central bowl must be placed in the mount before the arms are fixed. It is easy to mount it again and I will add a clear manual.
Free worldwide shipping. The chandelier will be shipped in several parcels with full insurance by priority airmail.

French lamps and wiring
Art deco lamps made in France were equiped with B22 bayonet sockets. For most countries like Europe or the US such sockets are practicaly impossible to use. For instance in the States 110 volt bulbs with B22 fitters are obscure, very hard to find and only one model bulb in very limited wattages is available. In spite of what sellers of unrestored pieces of poor quality claim in their ads when they offer lamps with bayonet caps sockets : except for the UK and Australia French chandeliers and lamps need to be rewired for your country. In order to fit Edison large or small screw base bulbs as used in the USA, B22 sockets have to be replaced by American candelabra base or standard/medium size Edison screw-in sockets. E14 and E27 are modern replacements for European countries. An additional complication is that the size thread used in early French lighting to connect the sockets to the chandelier mountings or lamp bases is not compatible with the modern size threads used in the USA and Europe. New American or European sockets do not just screw on to the old lamp fixtures. In order to make it possible to use an original old French chandelier or lamp with modern screw bulb bases, a specialized restorer will have to re-tap the threads. All my cleaned and restored chandeliers, sconces and lamps come rewired with the correct sockets you will need to use modern bulbs in your country.
